RESUME, AVIS

Début du XXème siècle à Copenhague. Insatisfaite auprès de son mari, le futur ministre GUSTAV KANNING, la cantatrice GERTRUD prend le compositeur ERLAND JANSSON pour amant. Elle sent que son mari est distant et avoue qu'elle ne l'a jamais vraiment aimé. Avec son artiste, elle est épanouie mais c'est lui qui ne manifeste pas d'amour pour elle. Lors d'un banquet, GERTRUD revoit son premier amour, le poète GABRIEL LIDMAN, qu'elle aima jadis.
